Fox 5 News

Today, my WONDERFUL father was featured on Fox 5 News :) My niece "Little Pearl" sealed the deal by sending this letter:

This morning before I went to school, (I go to Ernest Everett Just Middle School) my mom had Fox 5 Morning News on and I remember you all saying to post pictures on your facebook page of our Grandparents. My grandfather passed away December 20, 2010 and he was diagnosed with Sarcomatoid Carcinoma of the Prostate (rare form of prostate cancer). He is a Black History Icon and his legacy will live on through us, his grandkids and my mom and her sisters and my amma who he loved always and forever (their favorite song). 3 days prior to his passing he signed paperwork to incorporate a non-profit we call Warriors Fighting for HIS Cure, Inc. We miss him ALOT, but we will continue to raise awareness against Prostate Cancer. We have some upcoming Benefit Concerts in his honor that Musicman ministries & Our Warriors Fighting for HIS Cure, Inc are having 3 concert in Memory of my grandfather to Celebrate his life. We had a concert in January and our next one is February 27, 2011, after that one we will have one in March. This coming weekend we are having a Black History Awareness event in his honor as well. We have a blog, 4 wewalkbyfaith.blogspot.com telling his story. We miss you gennana and love you and we will continue to Raise Awareness against Prostate Cancer and Sarcomatoid Carcinoma of the Prostate (rare form of Prostate Cancer) until there is a cure. love you Genana, All World Girl Pearl (amma misses you and we hope the President and the First lady do light the white house Blue in September, so you will see from Heaven. Hope amma can be there too. We are writing letters and hope they will get them.)

OPEN LETTER TO RUSSELL SIMMONS

Dear Mr. Russell Simmons:

On December 20, 2010, my dad passed away, he had a rare form of Prostate Cancer called Sarcomatoid Carcinoma of the Prostate. Three days prior to his passing, he signed the official paperwork to Incorporated a non-profit in the State of Maryland which he is the Co-founder of, Warriors Fighting for HIS Cure, INC (WF4HC).

The Mission of WF4HC is to empower those challenged with Prostate Cancer and/or Sarcomatoid Carcinoma of the Prostate to regain, restore and rebuild their Faith, Family & Finances while taking authority over and working to find a cure for this deadly disease. Our mandate is to walk by faith and not by sight and through the power of Faith to see an end to Prostate Cancer and/or Sarcomatoid Carcinoma of the Prostate and its effects on Men.

We endeavor to bring awareness, locate programs, resources and solutions that will surround, supplement and sustain the lives of men and those Challenged with Prostate Cancer and Sarcomatoid Carcinoma of the Prostate so that they can focus on enjoying the qualities of life.

I first would like to ask you if you were aware that there is a Prostate Cancer Awareness Month which our lovely President Obama proclaimed last year. I also wanted to discuss last year's Breast Cancer Month which was TRULY AWESOME. In the month of October 2010 (Breast Cancer Awareness Month), the WORLD got the opportunity to see NFL players in Pink!!! The World of the NFL supported women/men who fought and beat breast cancer, the women/men who are fighting breast cancer and the women/men who have died from Breast Cancer. The Susan G. Komen Foundation has done an Awesome thing for the Breast Cancer Community.

I myself was so wowed, I had to look up how Susan G. Komen for the cure, got started. After reading Nancy's (Susans sister) story and some of the heartfelt emotions and feelings she had, I totally related and this is when we decided that we would become fighters for those fighting Prostate Cancer and Sarcomatoid Carcinoma of the Prostate, and making Men Aware that they should get a Prostate Screening and the importance.

I, Jamecia Muckelvene, am the CEO and Founder, of WF4HC, and it saddens me that, the cure wasn’t already here, prior to my dad’s passing, or that I didn’t realize there was a blue ribbon and the importance of a Prostate Screening. If there was more Awareness and even better yet, a CURE, my daddy, James Irving Muckelvene, a Faithful loving man of GOD, would have have still been here. My dad has all girls, just like you. :)

Mr. Simmons, I feel that my purpose here is to provide others more awareness and fight for a cure. You can read his story on this blog we created (4wewalkbyfaith.blogspot.com).

So, enough of the emotional stuff. So, why am I writing this letter to you? Well, I don't watch TV much , but I happened to turn to your show, Running Russell Simmons, and both times I watched, you totally brought tears to my eyes.

The first was when Simone (Reyes) your Executive Assistant told you her biopsy showed signs of pre-cancer. You were in SHOCK, like she was your daughter and you imeediately told her you would find her the best doctors and what EVER you could do for her YOU WOULD. You hired a chef not asking if she would like you to do that, but you did it because you love her as family. You hired a Chef, not just to cook for her, but to show her how to cook healthy foods. I was in tears because, although my parents had insurance, I couldn’t afford to pay the best doctors to come in and take care of my dad. I couldn’t afford a Chef although later with prayer one did arrive, and made daddy SEVERAL meals; however, Daddy passed before he could finish them. We THANK Chef Keith James (http://www.chefupnorth.com/) and his wife Ronda Cave.

The second was after we came up with the idea to start the non-profit and we were seeking different types of Jewelry which Warriors could purchase in the honor of their loved one’s fighting or the loss of warriors that passed. When I saw the show with TI, and you presented the dog tag suggestion, I LOVED it…I cried when the following weekend I saw your vision come to life. My sister had a Kay Jewelers booklet and right in front of me were the DOG tags…it was like…if only I could make my dreams a reality. If only I had the support you have.

So, I write this open letter to you asking for your support. My dad served in the United States Armed forces for over 20 years (1973-1993), him and my mom married over 38 years, and he has always been loyal and faithful to his 3 girls, his 8 grandchildren and his "always and forever" love, our mom. He was especially faithful to GOD whom we know he is with in Heaven.

Mr. Simmons, Daddy was a Warrior who lived to a strict code of honour AND lived life to the fullest in full awareness and without fear of the unpredictable nature of life and of the constant presence of death. Even in his time of death he did not fear death, he just excepted it as another part of his journey and therefore as with all things he faced death with honour.

I Ask that you become a BLUEWarrior, so we continue to fight this fight against Prostate Cancer and Sarcomatoid Carcinoma of the Prostate and so that daddy will not just be a memory , but his legacy will live on through WF4HC! I am asking you help me connect with others in the Media, so that we the Warriors Fighting for HIS Cure, INC can spread more Awareness of Prostate Cancer and Sarcomatoid Carcinoma of the Prostate. If you are interested in talking with me and helping me make my dream of this non-profit a reality and so as Susan G. Koman has received support WORLDwide, the Blue Warriors can also receive support for our MEN who are also fighting. Please email me at warriors@warriorsfightingforhiscure.org or call 240-671-9360. This is my OPEN letter to you in the hopes that you will contact me.

Some notes for African American Men since Black History Month is February

Daddy's Response.

I was looking at my emails from way back when and found this email I sent to my parents back in 2006...after you read my email, you will see, Daddy's Response. All World Girl is Pearline my daughter whose Birthday is 1/11/11 this year. She will be 14. Daddy said she will be Famous one day and I believe him.

Hello Mother and Father-

I have been doing a lot of thinking and I want you and Daddy to be TWO happy people. What would be your ultimate happy household…if there was one? Let’s say I decided to have a slumber party or sleep over at my house with my sisters. What would I say to one of them or both of them that would make things so much easier on you?? Please do not just send an email just type the first thing that comes to your mind. Please think about it first…let my question soak in …then respond. Life is not guaranteed for any of us and I just want my immediate family to live life as if it is our last days.

What could I do to make things easier on the both of you? Other then being a pest, because I know you like it…but on a serious note please give it some thought and let me know.

Thanks

I Love you

Mecia

p.s. I have also cc: them on this email, please just hit reply if you only want me to read or reply all if you want all of us to know what’s on your mind. My sisters can respond to the second question about what I could do to make things easier on them, but if you want mommy and daddy to do things differently to make yours easier…hold your breath…it ain’t happening. Your going to have to change yourself cause they ain’t changing for no one but the man up above.

Dear Jamecia,

Whether you've been personally affected by cancer or have friends, family, or coworkers who have faced the disease, the truth is, we all have a reason to hope for a world with less cancer and more birthdays.

Right now, while many of us rush to prepare for the holidays, I hope you'll take a minute to make a difference in the fight against cancer. Jamecia, this holiday season is the perfect time to give hope.

Your gift will help your American Cancer Society continue to save lives and fight for every life threatened by every cancer in every community.

I know you care about creating a world with less cancer. As 2010 comes to a close, I'd like to share some of the accomplishments our supporters have helped make possible:

After Receiving the message above, I sent this message.

I'm not trying to be rude, but I'm not sure how you all are helping us who are fighting Sarcomatoid Carcinoma. If you can email me back and tell me what hope you have given our family. I would greatly appreciate it. I'm course to find out what hope you all or research or funding goes towards folks fighting Sarcomatoid Carcinoma of the Prostate. Maybe I'm missing something. Please let me know how you can help our family.

Blessed

Throughout this fight with Sarcomatoid Carcinoma (initially prostate cancer), my fathers story has touched A LOT of people. We receive e-mails from people showing their support, feeling our pain and who are praying for us on a regular basis. It is so touching. There are some of those people who stand out and take the extra step to touch our lives even more.

Last month I received an e-mail from Ronda, I believe I posted her e-mail on the blog. Ronda dealt with something similar and feels a personal connection to our story. There are a lot of similarities in our stories and we too feel a connection with her.

Last week her husband Keith James ( http://www.chefupnorth.com/ ) who is a MAGNIFICENT chef that owns a catering company prepared and delivered 10 COMPLETE MEALS for my father. A family that we had NEVER met but felt connected and wanted to help took the time to deliver and cook 10 MEALS for my Dad. If that is not amazing, I don't know what is.

My dad was ALL smiles when they brought the meals to him. I have been the main "chef" since my father was diagnosed and I do OK :) After each of Keith's meals I asked my dad "how was it?" and he said "it was REALLY good! It was well seasoned and tender. It was good!" Normally after one of my meals I ask "how was it?" and he says *long pause* "it was pretty good"

ON TOP OF THAT... Ronda and her husband INSISTED that we contact them when the meals run out and offered to make my dad even more.

Keith and his little one showing us the meals he prepared

Keith showing my father the meals he prepared for him

Right before Keith, Ronda and their little one showed up, a journalist came to speak with us about my Dad's story. We will post the story when it is released!

I had this post pended but wrote on December 12, 2010

My Dad was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in Feburary of this year, now it has morphed into Sarcomatoid Carcinoma of the Prostate, a rare form of cancer, which little research has been done on.

So my thoughts today, took me to where I was the first day I found out and

Immediately upon finding out, I was full of saddness, hurt and anger! My next thoughts on my long ride on the train were ...I Know of some horrible men that need to suffer and DANG, why couldn't it be them with this disease but NOT MY DAD! I knew that this wasn't the work of GOD, because GOD isn't who gives us sickness or diseases, GOD want's us to live life abundantly. I know some folks always say, GOD is punishing me, but if you read scriputure you will know it is NOT HIM!

So the more I thought about it, I start to think about all the good in my daddy.

My dad is a WONDERFUL husband to my mother, they have been married for almost 40 years. My dad has always provided for all of us, to include his grandchildren WE ALL LOVE AND ADORE HIM, HE IS OUR HERO! My DAD served in the military for 20 plus years, he was a Drill Sergeant that helped guide and train many soliders that SERVE THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA US ARMY. My dad has helped other families (related and unrelated) and has always offered to help anyone in need.

Since finding out that my dad has this Sarcomatoid Carcinoma of the Prostate, I have learned that those bad men, I KNOW, I must forgive and heal from the pain. I have always been close to my family of five (dad, mom, 2 sisters), but I've realized that all the have since also asked for forgiveness for my thoughts of the bad men I know having this Cancer instead of my dad.

From the moment I found out up until this day, I have prayed for healing in my daddy's body, expecting these words to be fulfilled, BY HIS STRIPES WE ARE HEALED. Everyday, I reach out to Doctors, the media, churches, hospitals, congress men and women, delegates, etc...asking, seeking and knocking. If they don't respond, I continue to work, because Faith without works is dead. Everyday, I somehow reach out to someone based on my faith, for Faith is believing in what is true, and Jesus said I AM the WAY THE TRUTH and THE LIFE! EVERYDAY my faith increases and I will continue to walk by faith and not by sight hoping for the evidence of things not seen.

Christmas Prayers

"What would you like for Christmas, Daddy?" ~ me

"To be healed" ~Daddy

This Is My Daddy

Pended post from 12/7/2010

So, right now, I am sitting at my desk at work thinking about my daddy. I saw this picture which is inserted in this blog, where he is smiling and happy with my mom. I remember that smile, because even today, it's on his face. I remember his hat that he wears and seeing him at the metro with his red coat (below) and looking as KOOL as he wants to be. I sit here thinking about all that him and my mom have done for us, their 3 girls and 8 grandchildren. Oh yeah, and their three son-in-laws...oh two, one-to-be in August.

Well, back to Daddy, he means the WORLD to me and my family. WE LOVE him dearly!

Me sharing with all of you that;

When I pray, I have finally recognized that I HAVE to Pray first to Jesus, and ask HIM to speak to our Father on our behalf in prayer. I ask Jesus to ask GOD to forgive us of our sins, even the one's we are not aware of...see, this walk of Faith includes "us" , you, me and all of us buidling a relationship with HIM. This isn't just about fighting Sarcomatiod Carcinoma of the Prostate, this is about getting back good with GOD. This is about fighting the sickness and diesase's of the world.

When I pray, I see myself, cleaning my daddy's bones, brushing the tumors off of them. I see GOD's Angels cleaning his body, and making it so clean I can see his bones white and with no tumors on them. I see his blood flowing like GOD designed it to flow. I see daddy, walking again and HEALED, WHen I pray, I pray that GOD will use my daddy as a vessel for HIM (GOD) and let my daddy be one miracle here on earth for the world to see and realize that GOD's word is true, that BY HIS STRIPES WE ARE HEALED. I pray and remind GOD of HIS word, ask and you shall recieve...Jesus said when two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they ask, it shall be done for them of my Father in Heaven. I touch and agree in Daddy (James Irving Muckelvene's) Healing in Jesus name.

See, when I pray, I see the daddy below in these pictures, BEING HEALED, Smiling, Walking, giving his family LOVE, JOY, being Kind and GOOD. See. GOD is...and I want to share with you today, that my daddy will be healed and we will continue to ask, seek and knock. If you know of anyone willing to walk this walk of faith with us and help us seek doctors to help us find the Cure for Sarcomatoid Carcinoma of the Prostate, or email us at forwewalkbyfaithnotsight@yahoo.com. I'm ready for the VICTORY! I know it's near. Be a Vessel.

With love, Mecia and Enjoy the posted pictures of my daddy. This is currently, the song he sings and had us sing with him. What a Friend I have in Jesus.

Art is Therapy

Lately my Dad has been drawing as a form of therapy. This wasn't "prescribed" this type of therapy by a doctor or suggested by a counselor, it was just something he felt called to do. He's never thought of himself as an artist or even drawn as a hobby but I'd say he's doing MAGNIFICENT for him to have only been practicing for 3-4 weeks :)
today he drew Kailynn-James

practicing drawing from a book my mother purchased for him

SARCOMATOID CARCINOMA

Another daughters cry for help that I found on a message board:

"Our Mom has been recently dx with the following listed above- We need as much info as anyone can provide, there are so many mixed messages and treatments , however we are aware it is not curable per the CA Doc but non the less-we want to make the right choices and decisions as far as treatment vs non treatment for her - Some has listed that the tumors dissapear and in some cases they have with our Mom but have come back with a vengance - Recently she was rushed to ER due to  tumor ruptured the spleen and she was bleeding out, according to the docs this never happens except in Leukemia patients but it did for her.. Testing has been ongoing since March of last year , Mom went in for Cataracts and the Doc she saw insisted on a chest X-ray before they went any further , am unsure why but almost a year later and multi biospys of the lungs and lymph nodes int he center of the chest, pulmonologist were certain it was not cancer until Dec another CT was done and a tumor showed in the adrenal gland along within the areas of the liver and spleen, also a lymph node under the arm had been causing her pain- Upon biopsy approx 3 weeks ago of the arm lympoh node the Dx was made and then a week later the spleen ruptured.. We have been advised this is an aggressive Ca , and is not curable but I have read cases where after chemo and or removal of the tumors that some have had a 5 year servival rate and unfortunaly the majority of cases I have seen and or read have been where our Mom is at now - Since being home , she sleeps alot except for a night - is uncomfortable , denies pain but you can see that shes in pain- nothing tastes right to her so no appeitite to speak of , has lost alot of weight already due to not eating- she has stomache upset alot -  We are frustrated with the docotors, althought this being a rare Ca ,I dodnt beleive there is enough info on it and or out there , we are still waiting on further from Mayo on the first biopsy but for now this was the dx given.. Mom has alwasy been healty , never ill , never in hospitals - it so insanley wrong to see someone so well and then a matter of hours and weeks , its gone -  I am angry , I know it is one of the steps but I dont understand the technology they have now it just blows me aways that no one knows anything  ( the Doctors)
Please,, anyone who has insight and suggestions we would so greatly appreciate them- Our Mom is our rock for our family and our Best Friend  , we whats best for her .. and as much as I hate to say it , it needs to be about quality vs quanity now , I hope I am wrong , and she can be with us for another 5-10 years however not if shes in pain and miserable and unable to enjoy life ..  Please Help "

It is a shame that there isn't much information on Sarcomatoid Carcinoma... I plan to post all information I find here on the blog.
